BOAL Extrusion UK switched to 100% green wind and solar electricity

Shepshed, May 2023. BOAL Extrusion UK, a leading supplier of sustainably extruded aluminium profiles, has taken a further step in its ESG objectives with regard to reducing its Scope 2 emissions by opting entirely for green energy when renewing the UK electricity contract.

When determining the material topics of BOAL's ESG strategy, reducing Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions came forward as an important subject. Hereby the BOAL Group has the target to halve the Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions per tonne of produced aluminium in 2030 across all companies. “ESG stands for Environment, Social and Governance, meaning that in every company decision these aspects are taken in consideration and we check whether our actions comply with the high standards in these areas we’ve committed to", explains Cees van den Heuvel, CFO and responsible for strategic energy procurement.

When entering into the new contract, BOAL ensured that it is only electricity generated by wind and solar energy. With this we are absolutely sure that there are no CO2 emissions such as with biomass, which is officially green electricity but has not been seen as such by the public in recent years..

Switching to green electricity does not mean that we are ready in terms of CO2 reduction in Shepshed. Preparations are currently being made to replace a gas oven which is 40% more efficient and we are also at an advanced stage to provide the roofs with solar panels. These are all steps to increase sustainability and maintain the liveability of our planet
